"There is nothing -- absolutely nothing -- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.

Ratty and Mole, "Wind in Willows"

In or out of 'em, it doesn't matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that's the charm of it. Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular; and when you've done it there's always something else to do, and you can do it if you like, but you'd much better not."
Spoken by Ratty to Mole in Wind in the Willows a children's book by Kenneth Grahame (1859-1932). Note: Published 100 years ago, 1908.

September 7-8

Cruise to Vineyard Haven

Since we are pretty much "going straight across", the tide should not be a big factor in departure times, so I'd expect most will head over mid to late morning on Saturday, September 7th.

In the past, after Labor Day, moorings have been free outside the breakwater, but most will likely want to raft up inside and pay for the privilege, to avoid the "rollies" outside, or if the wind is some flavor of northerly...

Depending on who shows up, we'll make dinner plans "on-site” amongst those in attendance, as some may plan to eat aboard. There may also be some interest in a breakfast group to the Black Dog on Sunday morning.

As usual, MOTH will be open for cocktails at 5:00 PM on Saturday, possibly rafted with SASSY CAT or another large cockpit boat, so we can be party-central...

We will monitor Ch 9, but in general it will be a fairly impromptu low-key event, as befits the time of the season...

(In the event of a hurricane, the "cruise" will be moved to the clubhouse...)

Details will be sent out a week or two before the event.

Informal Cruises:

If you have planned a cruise and wouldn't mind company, post your itinerary on the bulletin board at the Club. And check the bulletin board for possible cruise opportunities with fellow WBYC members.

Thanks,
Don Karl
