Lousy Thursday Dinner Host Sign Up

A great way to get to know the other sailors and their families is at Lousy Thursday Dinner (LTD). This is a fun tradition at WBYC, where 1 or 2 sailing families make dinner for members and sailing families.

There are approx 20-40 people who sign up to attend on any given Thursday. Dinner is $4/pp and proceeds (after reimbursement) go back to the program.

If you can host/make dinner (remember - nothing fancy), please click on the link below and enter your name and email address and select a date. There are 2 slots per date.

If you have any problem with the link or have any questions, please contact Noreen Power (ncpower1@gmail.com) or Andrew Nugnes(alnuggs@hotmail.com)

Following the WBYC Sunday Brunch join us for an exclusive member event to demo our club 420's and our club's new addition a Freedom 21', learn about our boats and programs we offer, and meet our Sailing Director.  We also invite members with Opti's to bring their boats down for an open sail on the bay.
We look forward to a fun-filled day with our members on June 11th!

WBYC is pleased to offer our new and improved Adult Sailing Program Wednesday Evenings 5PM-6:30PM.
Have fun on the bay on our Freedom 21' or a 420!   Click here for more details!

Wondering what we have in store for  Friday pm sessions?

We here at WBYC want to create a program where our sailors feel comfortable in every boat we provide as well as social interaction among levels.  We also want to create an opportunity for you to come watch them.... maybe even participate.

With that being said; WBYC Sailing proudly introduces Fun Friday Frolics.  All sailors in our program are invited from 12-4.  Parents please come join us for lunch at 12 then experience the Frolics as your son or daughter take to the water for an all-inclusive activity.  Feel free join in as well.

Volunteers are encouraged and welcomed.

Summer 2017 is just around the corner! Fro more information about the program, see below.

Thank you

WBYC Sailing Program Director

Welcome to the 2017 Jr. Sailing Season!

The 2017 summer Jr. Sailing Season is fast approaching and we are all looking forward to getting out on the bay for some fun in the sun!  For new and returning sailors please see our application for 2017 program dates, including the new LTD form.  You may fill out the three necessary enrollment forms (links are below) directly on your computer then print it out and send it along with your payment to the address provided.

The 8 week program will begin on Monday, June 26th and end on Friday, August 18th.  It is possible to do a 4 week half session which will begin on the same date but will end on Friday, July 21st with the next half session beginning on Monday, July 24th.

We will have a registration/instructor meet and greet on Saturday, June 3rd from 9-12. All sailing registration forms/payments are due at this June 3rd gathering.

At WBYC our Jr.sailing program is popular and can fill up quickly. Applications are due by May 30th.  It is open to all but first priority is given to WBYC members and their families.  Otherwise enrollment is on a first come first serve basis.

Opti sailors are required to have their own boat but 420 boats are supplied by the club.  If sailing for the first time and you are looking to acquire an Opti they can often times be purchased used through Craigslist or classified ads or through word of mouth.  If you are having difficulty finding an Opti for purchase or if you would like to rent the club Opti please contact me.  Oftentimes we know someone who is selling their Opti because they have moved up to 420's.

Every sailor is required to come to class each day prepared with the following items:  US coast guard approved life jacket; a whistle; closed toe water shoes or sailing boots; sunscreen already applied, a towel; a bottle of water; a nutritious snack; and a positive attitude ready to sail!. In addition, all sailors are required to be strong swimmers and pass a swimming test.

We will also be offering adult sailing classes again this summer, if you or someone that you know is interested please let us know.  The schedule is to be announced but it will help us to know how many adult sailors that we will have. They will be offered in the very early evening.

For your summer planning purposes there are some dates/events to remember.

  • We will have a kick off meeting and gathering for all sailors and their families at 6PM on Sunday, June 25th.  This is a potluck get together at WBYC and it is a great way to reconnect, meet some new sailors and learn additional program details. It is important that you attend.
  • On July 4th, WBYC has a cookout in the afternoon and they extend an invitation to all sailing families - you do not need to be a member, everyone is welcome to come!
  • There will be an annual Jr. Sailing fundraiser dinner held on Saturday evening July 22nd. Please save this date since it is not only a super fun evening but it is very important to our program.  This event helps to keep our sailing fees so affordable and attendance by sailing families/friends is needed.
  • Lastly, the awards night will be held on Friday, August 18th.  There are many ways for families to become involved and share in the fun, more details of the many opportunities will follow.
